Background
The Mc Echron Private Cemetery is located just west of West Mountain Rd. in the Town of Queensbury, Warren Co., NY. It is located in a grove of trees near the Apple House (built circa 1831), just below the old apple orchards on the Mc Echron farm. It was established as "The Mc Echron Private Cemetery", in trust for the family by deed of John S. Mc Echron [Warren Co. NY Deeds Book 86, page 253] on 31 March 1900 and is dedicated for the use of the family and their descendants "forever". The deed was recorded 8 May 1900.
Daniel Peter Mc Eachron is the son of Peter and Maria (Kilmer) Mc Eachron of Cossayuna Lake, Town of Argyle, Washington Co., NY.
Daniel and Sally (Williamson) Mc Eachron, his wife, migrated first circa 1824 to the Town of Essex, Essex Co., NY and resided of the "shanty farm" of Judge Reuben Whallon . They migrated circa 1831 to West Mountain, where Daniel P. Mc Eachron built the "Apple House". In the mid to late 1830's, Daniel built a larger home immediately west of the Apple House and at that time converted the Apple House into a cider mill and storage area for his apple crop.
The second home was destroyed by fire in the early 1840's possibly resulting in the death of his son Peter in 1842, though further investigation is needed to confirm this assumption.
The family immediately dismantled the cider press and moved back to the "Apple House", where they set up permanent housekeeping.
A large barn was built south-west of the apple house and used to store apples and the cider press. It is said that outline of tthe foundation of the house that burned may be seen especially during dry summers when the grass is freshly cut.
The last Mc Echron's to occupy the house were Willard S. and Ida (Putnam) Mc Echron.
The "Apple House" was demolished in 1993/1994 by W. Eric Wiley, current owner of the property.
